MARGATE – Lucy the Elephant, the city’s favorite pachyderm, is providing the backdrop for the NJ State Police’s entry into the American Association of State Troopers’ 11th annual “America’s Best Looking Cruiser” contest.

The contest includes photos of state police cruisers in beautiful locations unique to each state. New Jersey’s entry is in front of Lucy, the nation’s number one roadside attraction, according to USA Today’s 2024 Best Roadside Attraction list announced on May 15. After a period of public voting, the nation now knows that Lucy is tops when it comes to travel. Hopefully, the State Police will get some leverage with Lucy peering down upon the cruiser of the top State Police organization in America.

First on the list of photos is an Alabama Highway Patrol Charger in front of a state helicopter and a U.S. battleship. Colorado State Patrol shows a Mustang EV with three mustangs grazing nearby, and the Indiana State Police has its SUV cruiser sitting in the totality of the solar eclipse at 2:30 p.m. on April 8, 2024. All of the photos honor the brave men and women who patrol state highways across the USA.

The top 13 states getting the most votes will have their cruiser photographs included in the organization’s 2025 calendar.

Voting is open to the public, one device per person, through noon July 29 at the Best Looking Cruiser 2024 contest page.
