The Sea Isle City Beach Patrol hosts the annual Captain Bill Gallagher 10-Mile Island Run on Saturday evening.
The race is open to the public, as well as lifeguards and running clubs from the region. More than 1,000 runners are expected.
The 10-mile race is on a flat course, including approximately 2½ miles on the oceanfront Promenade, with the remainder of the race on the beach.
It starts at 6 p.m. at the Beach Patrol headquarters at 44th Street and the Promenade. The finish line will be on the beach at 44th Street.
An awards ceremony will follow the race at approximately 7:45 p.m. at the Beach Patrol headquarters.
The event is held rain or shine. However, due to safety concerns, the race will be canceled if there is an electrical storm. Weather cancellations will be announced by 4:30 p.m. at www.sicbp.com.
