Most of the damage at the Jersey Shore inflicted by Hurricane Erin last week was on the beaches and dunes.
But the rough surf and high winds also damaged the launch site for Wildwood’s popular fireworks shows traditionally held on Friday nights in the summer.
As a result, the final fireworks show for the summer season has been canceled this Friday, the city announced in a statement on its tourism website.
“Due to the Hurricane Erin damage to the fireworks launch site and equipment, Friday night fireworks will not be held and are unfortunately finished for the 2025 season,” the city said.
Throughout the summer from late June to Labor Day weekend, the fireworks are usually launched from the beach at Pine Avenue and are synchronized to music that plays over the Boardwalk’s sound system.
