Joining with other celebrated tourism spots, Cape May County is being touted as one of the top travel destinations in the United States by a leading international tourism publication.

A recent feature story in Travel Trade Today spotlights the county as one of the fastest-growing travel destinations, placing it among just five U.S. counties recognized as emerging tourism hotspots.

“The county is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the United States, charming Victorian architecture, and a thriving arts scene. Visitors flock to the area for its laid-back atmosphere and historical significance. Cape May is not just a place to relax; it’s a destination for learning, adventure, and exploration,” the story says.

In 2024, more than 12 million visitors to Cape May County generated $8.1 billion in direct tourism spending, $23 million in occupancy taxes and $668.5 million in state and local taxes.

“Visitors are increasingly seeking authentic, meaningful travel experiences, and Cape May County delivers on every level,” the county said in a news release Tuesday. “From world-famous beaches and charming Victorian streets to tranquil woodlands, environmental adventures, rural escapes, arts festivals, and four-season events, the county offers a blend of natural beauty and beach-vibe energy that today’s travelers crave.”

Umbrellas and cabanas are a common summer sight on Ocean City's popular beaches.

The growth in tourism and hospitality spending is helping to fuel local businesses, jobs, new investments and an array of special events to enhance the visitor experience, a top county official pointed out.

“Cape May County is uniquely positioned in today’s tourism landscape,” County Commissioner Director Leonard Desiderio said. “Our coastal beauty, deep history, and warm, hospitality create a year-round vacation experience unlike anywhere else.”

In addition, the county’s commitment to open space and farmland preservation ensures that Cape May County’s iconic charm and unique maritime character will endure, according to the release.

Travel Trade Today places Cape May County alongside celebrated destinations such as the Florida Keys, the Catskills, and the Great Smoky Mountains – regions known for turning their natural assets into unforgettable visitor experiences.

Heading into 2026, Cape May County says it is planning to attract even more travelers by offering them “a fresh standard for tourism growth, innovation, and authentic coastal living.”
