Weekend storm expected to bring 2 to 4 inches of snow at shore

National Weather Service graphic shows snow totals expected throughout New Jersey from the weekend storm.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Cape May and surrounding coastal communities from 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 through 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.

Residents and visitors are advised to closely monitor weather forecasts and conditions during this period.

The latest NWS forecast calls for up to 2 to 4 inches of snow accumulation at the shore, possibly mixed with freezing rain during the early hours of the storm. Isolated bands of greater snowfall are possible.

Plan on slippery road conditions and use caution when driving or limit travel on Saturday night and Sunday.

Please write down the following emergency contact numbers for local utility companies should you experience outages or other problems during the upcoming winter storm:

  • Atlantic City Electric: 800-833-7476
  • South Jersey Gas: 888-766-9900
  • Comcast Cable: 800-COMCAST (800-266-2278)

The utility companies recommend you contact them directly as soon as you experience a problem so that they can properly track outages and repairs.

Freezing temperatures are predicted throughout Sunday, Monday and the early part of the week. Make sure thermostat settings in unoccupied homes are above 60 degrees, and please check on neighboring homes for frozen pipes.

For Police and Fire Department emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call Cape May police at 609-884-9500.
