Wildwood firefighters had to contend with icy conditions and frigid temperatures while battling an early morning blaze Monday that displaced 11 people.
Fire crews arrived at the scene on the 700 block of Montgomery Avenue at 2:43 a.m. and discovered a fire on the second-floor deck that extended into the wall.
Despite treacherous conditions, the fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the area where it broke out, which minimized the amount of damage, the Wildwood Fire Department said in a Facebook post.
“Firefighters had to deal with single digit wind chills and icy conditions due to the weather at the time of the fire,” the post said
Wildwood police and firefighters safely evacuated the building’s 11 occupants.
The Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office and Wildwood Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
