C.J. Gardner-Johnson isn't one to mince words. So his refreshingly honest response when asked during a media availability what he's going to do if the Eagles defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX should have been expected:
“I’m gettin’ drunk.”
- CJGJ on what he’s going to do if the Eagles win the Super Bowl
Gardner-Johnson was a member of the Eagles when they lost 38-35 in crushing fashion to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII two seasons ago. However, the safety then departed in free agency to join the Detroit Lions, playing in just three regular season games after sustaining a torn pectoral early in the campaign. Gardner-Johnson's second consecutive trip to free agency panned out much better, as he returned to the Eagles on a three-year/$27 million contract that guaranteed him $10 million. The 27-year-old had six interceptions during the regular season, and brought back with him an edge that the team was missing when they collapsed down the stretch a year ago.
He and the Eagles secondary will have their work cut out trying to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, but while Gardner-Johnson and Darius Slay are constants, star rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean mean Philadelphia is better equipped to do so than they were two years ago.
