Thunderstorms, High Heat in Forecast Through Thursday

The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management is warning of the possibility of flash flooding, severe thunderstorms and heat risk in a bout of nasty summer weather Wednesday and Thursday.

Heat and humidity will build through Thursday, with the heat index expected to hit 102 degrees. A Heat Advisory is in effect for much of the area from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Hot and very humid conditions will lead to an increased risk of heat-related illnesses on Thursday. A break in the prolonged excessive humidity will come Friday into Saturday, according to the forecast.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Wednesday evening and into tonight. Storms will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall, with rates near 1 to 2 inches per hour possible. Localized rainfall amounts near 2 to 4 inches are possible.

Drenching rainfall could lead to flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
