The city of Wildwood is planning to build a new pedestrian ramp to connect the Boardwalk with East Rio Grande Avenue.
The ramp will be compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act and will advance the city’s vision to create greater accessibility for the public.
“Located at a key entry point, the East Rio Grande Avenue project supports Wildwood’s broader goals of fostering a more inclusive community while enhancing public safety and quality of life,” the city said in a news release Wednesday announcing plans for the ramp.
The project will replace the existing Boardwalk ramp at East Rio Grande Avenue. The new timber-and-aluminum, multi-switchback ramp will be constructed in a style that honors the historic integrity of the 100-year-old Boardwalk. It also complements the city’s multi-year, multimillion-dollar Boardwalk reconstruction initiative, according to the release.
Construction is expected to be completed during the upcoming winter or spring.
The ramp project is part of Wildwood’s Small Cities Public Facilities application, prepared by Triad Associates of Vineland. Over the past 47 years, Triad has helped secure more than $1.7 billion in funding for municipalities and agencies. Engineering services are being provided by Colliers Engineering & Design.
Separately, Wildwood announced on Tuesday that it has been awarded a $2.3 million grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation to build a new pedestrian corridor linking the Boardwalk with Pacific Avenue’s downtown retail, dining and entertainment district.
