Police have arrested a Burlington County man after he allegedly destroyed a gay pride flag at a LGBTQ+ friendly ice cream shop in Cape May on the Fourth of July.

David R. Ebner, 21, of Marlton, is facing criminal mischief and bias intimidation charges following the investigation into a report of the removal and destruction of a flag displayed at the Fine Fellows Creamery on Beach Avenue, police said in a news release.

Cape May police detectives conducted interviews and preserved video evidence related to the crime, according to the release.

“The Cape May Police Department is committed to supporting all communities by standing against bias and ensuring that every individual – whether visiting or residing in our town – is treated fairly, with dignity, and equally protected under the law,” police said.
