Ten people were rescued Wednesday morning after their sailboat crashed into a jetty and sank off Avalon, but no one was injured, authorities said.
The boat was pushed by heavy winds into the jetty at 8th Street at around 11 a.m. after its engine died or malfunctioned, according to media reports.
The sailboat was carrying a total of 10 adults and children when the collision occurred, but all were rescued from the water and none were injured, the media reported.
Everyone on board was wearing a life jacket, Avalon Beach Patrol Chief Matthew Wolf told The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The sailboat came from the Avalon Yacht Club and was trying to return from an educational sailing program, The Inquirer reported.
Another boat or boats from the yacht club and a personal watercraft used by the beach patrol made the rescue, Wolf told the newspaper.
