Ocean City Apartment Searched in Child Porn Investigation

The Ocean City Police Department was part of the search.

  • Cape May County

Authorities searched an Ocean City apartment Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into child sexual exploitation, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office said.

A search warrant was executed on the 800 block of Asbury Avenue by the Cape May County Regional SWAT team, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Ocean City Police Department and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations in Atlantic City.

The warrant stemmed from a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children cyber tip that revealed unidentified suspects downloaded and shared images of child sexual abuse material, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland and Ocean City Police Chief William Campbell said in a news release.

At the time of the search, multiple electronic devices, including cell phones, laptop computers and camcorders, were seized from the apartment, according to the release. No arrests were immediately announced.

Sutherland said he will provide updates on the investigation at a later date as more information becomes available.

Noting the seriousness of the crime, Sutherland is urging the public to report any information regarding child exploitation in Cape May County.

Information may be reported to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-465 1135 or anonymously on the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office website at Cape May County Prosecutors Office (NJ).
