The end is finally in sight for the three-day heat wave that has baked everyone in temperatures flirting with 100 degrees. But more wild weather is on the way.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for New Jersey, including Atlantic and Cape May counties and the coastal communities, from Thursday afternoon to early Friday morning.

The Flood Watch extends from Thursday afternoon to 6 a.m. Friday. Up to 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected.

Flash flooding is possible, caused by excessive rainfall from a powerful line of thunderstorms. A warm and increasingly humid air mass will be in place ahead of an approaching cold front that will pass through the region Thursday night – finally bringing the oppressively hot temperatures this week to an end.

Showers and thunderstorms will be capable of heavy rain resulting in rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches. Rainfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour, according to the forecast.

Residents and vacationers are urged to monitor the forecasts as they continue to develop and should be prepared to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued. Flash Flood Warnings are more serious than the Flood Watch that has been issued for the region so far.
