It’s not exactly the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles or the NFL, but it is football – on the beach.

The Beach Football League is coming to the Jersey Shore this summer for a tour and tryouts in the “Wildwood Classic.”

Tryouts are set for June 7 and 8, at 9 a.m. at the Schellenger Avenue beach in Wildwood.

The event is part of the Beach Football League’s Summer Tour, offering athletes from all backgrounds – whether former college players, retired NFL professionals, or passionate amateurs – the chance to showcase their talent on the sand.

Tryouts are open to players who graduated high school in 2024 or earlier, are at least 18 years old, are not under contract with any other professional football league and are not current members of college football teams for the 2025 season.

Athletes will compete for a chance to be selected by the Beach Football League’s NFL players’ panel to participate in the Beach Football League’s Wildwood Classic exhibition game held at the end of the day.

The game will feature former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson versus former Broncos/Redskins running back Clinton Portis acting as team captains and selecting their own star-studded teams that will compete for glory on the beach.

The Wildwood Classic promises not just competitive play, but also a vibrant community atmosphere, set against the scenic backdrop of Wildwood’s expansive beaches.

“Whether aiming to reignite a football career or simply enjoy the camaraderie of the sport, this event is a must-attend, free to spectate,” according to a news release promoting the game.

There will be other surprise celebrity guests and meet-and-greet opportunities with all NFL legends on location.

In addition to open tryouts, the Beach Football League is hosting a youth camp for ages 8-17 called the Kids Zone and a youth tournament for high school-aged players.

The camp will offer young athletes the chance to learn from former and current NFL players and coaches. Whether just starting out or looking to improve their skills, this camp is an opportunity for teens and children to train with the best.

Registration for the Kids Zone camp is $50 per player and includes a four-day amusement park pass and two-day water park pass for access to all Morey’s Amusement Piers in Wildwood.

Registration for the Wildwood Classic Open Tryouts and the Kids Zone is available at www.BeachFootballLeague.com/register, which includes discounted four-day passes to Morey’s Amusement Piers.

The full weekend of competition kicks off on Friday, June 6, with the inaugural Wildwood Classic Golf Invitational, an exclusive charity event taking place at Morey’s Big Little 9 Par 3 Course.

The celebrity tournament will raise money for charitable organizations, including the J Foundation, the Eagles Autism Foundation, and the Appendix Cancer Research Foundation. More information and registration details can be found at https://events.golfstatus.com/event/inaugural-wildwood-nj-classic-golf-invitational.

The fundraising continues Saturday, June 7, with the Rare Courage Cornhole Challenge, a celebrity tournament supporting ACPMP Rare Courage Foundation to raise vital funds and awareness for the fight against appendix cancer.
