Cape May Police Warn of Bike and Scooter Theft

Cape May police are using Facebook to reach out to the public about bicycle theft. toland

The Cape May Police Department is alerting the public to a recent increase in the theft of bicycles and motorized scooters coinciding with the arrival of the summer tourism season.

“With the seasonal increase in population, we urge residents and visitors alike to take proactive steps to secure your property, including – but not limited to – bicycles, vehicles, and even your homes,” the department said in a Facebook post.

A simple lock on a bicycle or scooter can be an effective deterrent and may prevent a crime of opportunity, the post noted.

“Cape May remains a safe and welcoming destination, known for its charm and hospitality. The Cape May Police Department is committed to maintaining that sense of security and community – but we need your help,” the department said.

Members of the public are encouraged to contact the Detective Bureau at (609) 884-9500 if they have questions, need assistance or wish to report suspicious activity.

“Let’s work together to keep Cape May safe. We wish everyone a happy, safe, and enjoyable summer season,” the Facebook post said.
