In a word, the forecast calls for HOT weather through Wednesday – as in hellishly oppressive temperatures.
Multiple consecutive days of extreme heat and humidity will likely exacerbate the impacts from this dangerous heat wave, according to the National Weather Service.
High temperatures in the mid-90s to near 100 degrees will bake South Jersey. When combined with the humidity, the heat index will feel like 100 to 110 degrees each day.
Low temperatures will be in the mid-70s to near 80 degrees, according to the forecast. Warm temperatures at night will offer little relief from the heat, further compounding the heat risk.
Some areas may see their highest temperatures in over a decade on Monday and Tuesday, which are still expected to be the hottest days of the stretch, the Cape May County Office of Emergency Management warned in a statement.
Everyone is advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and keep out of the sun.
Authorities are advising people to check up on relatives and neighbors and to protect their pets from the extreme heat.
“Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke,” the Sea Isle City Police Department said in a heat warning.
