CAMDEN - Just minutes after phoning in the Sixers' choice for the third overall pick, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey fielded questions about the team's decision.
The Sixers can only know so much about VJ Edgecombe right now. They're eager to learn more about one of the tentpoles of their future.
For now, they can justify their decision-making.
What qualities does Edgecombe embody that Morey's front office looks for in evaluating prospects?
"I'm excited for everyone to meet him. I'm excited for you to meet him. It's a little hard to describe. He's very mature for his age, for being under 20. He carries himself like he's already been in the league, which I don't think is easy. So that's one," Morey explained.
"Two, I think you saw it, the love and his family there, even if you guys were watching the telecast, obviously a lot of people have that, but I think the admiration from his brother, you know?"
Morey went on to laud Edgecombe's intelligence.
"He has a real good head on his shoulders. Both on the court, basketball IQ wise, but also just life IQ, for lack of a better term."
Shortly after answering that question, Morey vanished. He had work to tend to.
