Cape May County Man Charged with Child Endangerment and Lewdness

A Lower Township man was charged Tuesday with child endangerment and lewdness after he was allegedly seen naked in public.

Robert McKinley, 55, of Greenwood Avenue in the Villas section of Lower Township, is facing three counts of lewdness and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announced.

The Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Lower Township Police Department launched a joint investigation on Feb. 26 after receiving reports that several juveniles saw a naked man in the 100 west block of Greenwood Avenue.

McKinley was charged after the Cape May County Regional S.W.A.T. Team executed a search warrant Tuesday at his Greenwood Avenue home. He is currently being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.

“This case highlights the commitment of law enforcement to protecting children in our community. We take these offenses very seriously and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who engage in inappropriate and unlawful behavior are held accountable,” Sutherland said in a news release.

Sutherland is urging anyone with additional information regarding the case to contact the Lower Township Police Department Detective Division or the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit at 609-465-1135 or to submit an anonymous tip through the Prosecutor’s Office website at cmcpo.tips.
