Stephanie DeRose, who has served as a teacher and administrator during her career in education, has been named the new superintendent of the Middle Township public schools.

DeRose will take over as superintendent starting July 1 for the 2025-2026 school year.

She will succeed Dr. Dave Salvo, who is retiring after serving as Middle Township public schools superintendent since 2014. He announced his retirement just prior to the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

“Stephanie DeRose is an accomplished educator with a great deal of leadership experience in education,” Salvo said in a news release Tuesday. “She will be an asset to our district, and we are thrilled to welcome and support her as she continues our mission to provide students with an exceptional education.”

DeRose said she is excited to join the Middle Township public schools family and looks forward to getting to know the staff, students and community.

“Everyone has been so welcoming throughout this process, and I look forward to building strong relationships within the school community,” DeRose said in the release. “I am excited to lead the district in creating an environment where every student can thrive, and every staff member feels supported in shaping the future.”

When not at work, DeRose, an Ocean City resident, enjoys spending time with her husband of 21 years, Quinn, and their son, Anthony.

The Middle Township Board of Education began the superintendent search process in September 2024, with the goal of having a new superintendent in place by the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

The district received applications from “many outstanding candidates and diligently reviewed each one to confidently select an individual that would be the best fit to lead the district,” according to the release.

DeRose’s education career includes more than 18 years of leadership experience. She has worked as a teacher of students with disabilities, an assistant principal and a principal in New Jersey. Her current role is the assistant superintendent for grades 6-12 at Millville public schools.

A South Jersey native, DeRose is a member of many professional affiliations, including the New Jersey Association of School Administrators and the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association.

She earned a master's degree in educational leadership from Wilmington University and a bachelor’s degree in education, with a Teacher of the Handicapped endorsement, from Rowan University.
