Just in time for Mother’s Day weekend, the Boardwalk Special Improvement District announced that tram car rides, and the iconic “Watch the tram car, please” announcement, will return to the Wildwood Boardwalk on Saturday, May 10.
This will be the 77th season of the tram cars carrying passengers up and down the 38 blocks of shops, amusement piers, waterparks, bars and restaurants that make up the two-mile Wildwood Boardwalk.
The tram cars debuted in 1939 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt opened the World’s Fair in Flushing Meadow, N.Y. The tram cars were brought to the Wildwood Boardwalk in 1949.
Beginning May 10, the tram car will operate on Saturdays and Sundays through May 18, starting at noon. Tram car operations will follow the Morey’s Piers schedule that can be found at https://www.moreyspiers.com/info/park-hours.
The tram cars will offer Memorial Day Weekend service from Thursday, May 22 through Monday, May 26, starting at noon and closing shortly after Morey’s Piers close. Beginning on Thursday, May 29 the tram cars will run seven days a week, through Labor Day weekend, from noon until Morey’s Piers close.
The single one-way fare to ride the tram car is $5, but discount ticket books are available, as well as the $13 Hop On, Hop Off Wristband, which allows unlimited rides until 5 pm on a single day.
Download the Wildwood tram car app for discounted tickets. Users will get a free fare with their first purchase.
Discount ticket books and wrist bands are also available to purchase on the tram cars, at the tram car stores on the Boardwalk at Cresse, 21st and 16th avenues and Morey’s Piers at 25th, Schellenger and Youngs Avenue.
