The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for a large section of the surrounding region, including Atlantic County, Cape May County and the shore communities.
Altogether, the Tornado Watch covers parts of Delaware, Washington, D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia until 12 a.m. tonight. Storms will begin to impact our area after 8 p.m. this evening, according to the forecast.
In New Jersey, the Tornado Watch includes Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, Ocean and Salem counties.
The National Weather Service warns of changing conditions tonight. Impacts may include “a couple of tornadoes” heavy rain, isolated hail the size of ping-pong balls and scattered wind gusts up to 65 mph.
“Some thunderstorms will also have the potential to become strong to severe, possibly resulting in damaging winds, hail, isolated tornadoes, and scattered instances of flash flooding,” the weather service said.
