A Cumberland County man has been charged with committing lewd acts while he was nude on a stretch of Higbee Beach in Lower Township.
Leonardo L. Medero, 44, of Vineland, was arrested on multiple counts of lewdness and taken to the Cape May County jail pending court proceedings, police said.
Medero fit the description of a man involved in two separate acts of lewdness on Higbee Beach in August, police said in a statement Monday announcing his arrest.
Police were first notified of an incident in August when a female victim reported an encounter with a male on Higbee Beach that “made her feel uncomfortable,” police said.
The male briefly left the area, but reappeared nude and committed a lewd act. The victim later reported the incident to Lower Township police.
A few days later, police received a report from two victims who saw a male commit a lewd act on Higbee Beach.
“The description given in both of these incidents were similar, with all the victims seemingly describing the same individual,” according to the police statement.
Medero was later charged after a police investigation identified him as the suspect in both incidents.
