When the Thunder Over the Waves Airshow returns to the Wildwoods in September 2026, it will feature an expanded lineup of elite aerial performers and a new patriotic tribute honoring the nation’s heroes.
A new addition to the event is the Tribute to the Armed Forces and 9/11 Heroes, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorism attacks.
“The show will transform the Wildwoods beachfront into a celebration of courage, sacrifice, and unity,” according to a news release.
Organizers are expanding the event to include special recognition ceremonies for military personnel, veterans, first responders and their families – complemented by live military flyovers and a commemorative performance reflecting the nation’s enduring spirit.
The airshow will include a practice day on Sept. 11 and the main event on Sept. 12.
“The 2026 Thunder Over the Waves Airshow will inspire American pride and honor those who serve,” said Louis M. Belasco, executive director of the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement Development Authority.
“This year’s salute is a heartfelt tribute and a reminder that freedom is never free. As America celebrates 250 years of freedom and independence, the dedication and sacrifice of our armed forces and first responders serve as a powerful reminder of what unites us as a nation,” he added.
The show will feature an array of headliner aerial acts, including military aircraft, custom-built planes, highly skilled aerialists, and skydivers.
Sponsors and community partners are invited to join in supporting the expanded celebration of aviation, community, and patriotism. In addition to thrilling performances in the sky, the weekend will host island-wide events and activities for all ages, the release said.
