The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Cape May and the surrounding shore towns from noon Wednesday to 8 p.m. Thursday.
A developing coastal storm system will bring gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 mph, especially along the coast, as well as heavy rain from 1 to 3 inches, according to the forecast.
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that minor tidal flooding is expected, as well as some beach erosion. Minor tidal flooding often results in some road closures. Usually, the most vulnerable roadways will flood, according to a weather alert from the Cape May Police Department.
Residents and visitors are urged not to leave their vehicles in areas prone to tidal flooding. Motorists should not drive through floodwaters.
“The water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to costly repairs,” the police department said.
