A suspect is in custody after a shooting in Galloway Township led to the lockdown of nearby Stockton University.
Students were given the all clear just after 4 p.m. Thursday, three hours after an off-campus shooting on Jimmie Leeds Road near Redwood Avenue.
A woman was wounded in what has been called a road rage incident.
After the shooting, the vehicle turned onto Vera King Farris Drive, traveling north through the campus and has not been located, according to the alert.
The suspect was taken into custody at a local housing development without incident, police said. But they did not release any details — including names or where the man was taken in Thursday evening. More is expected to come Friday.
Classes and events were canceled for Thursday, with a normal schedule returning Friday.
The victim was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus in Atlantic City for treatment. The hospital's Mainland Campus near the school also was put on lockdown, sources at the hospital told BreakingAC.
Police were seeking two suspects in a white sedan connected to the shooting, an alert put out by the university just after 2 p.m. said.
The Galloway Township Police Department would like to thank the university's Police Department, Absecon Police Department, Atlantic County Sheriff's Office, and Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office for their assistance with the investigation.
They also thanked neighboring municipalities and the New Jersey State Police for providing resources for the investigation.
As the investigation continues, police encourage anyone who has information related to the incident to contact the Galloway Township Police Department at 609-652-3705.
