Wildwood High School was closed Wednesday after fire broke out in one of the classrooms, authorities said.

The Wildwood and North Wildwood fire departments responded to the school just before 5 a.m. in response to an activated fire alarm.

The fire was discovered in the heating and air-conditioning unit in a classroom on the third floor and was quickly put out, the Wildwood Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

“Due to the quick response and actions taken by the first due companies, the damage was minimized,” according to the post.

The fire is being investigated by the Cape May County Fire Marshal’s Office and Wildwood Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit.

Due to the snowstorm, the high school was originally supposed to have a two-hour delayed opening on Wednesday.

The Glenwood Avenue School and the Early Childhood Annex in Wildwood both held classes on Wednesday after a delayed opening, the school district said.
