Murder-suicide was the cause of death for an elderly couple whose bodies were found this week in their Wildwood Crest home, authorities reported Friday.
The husband and wife were identified as Donald and Marion Miller, both 79, of the 300 block of East Atlanta Avenue, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
Based upon the results of the autopsy and the investigation to date, preliminary findings indicate that Marion Miller’s death was the result of a single gunshot wound and Donald Miller died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland said in a news release.
Officers from the Wildwood Crest Police Department went to the couple’s home on Wednesday and discovered their bodies.
Detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, in conjunction with the Wildwood Crest Police Department, launched an investigation, which included additional witness interviews, forensic analysis and autopsies conducted by the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, the release said.
At this time, there remains no threat to the public. The investigation is pending final forensic and medical examiner reports, according to the release.
No additional information will be released until the investigation is concluded or as circumstances warrant, Sutherland said.
Anyone with information related to the investigation is asked to contact the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit or the Wildwood Crest Police Department.
