Atlantic City Electric will be performing utility improvements along Corson’s Tavern Road (CR 628) in Dennis Township as part of a larger resiliency upgrade to the company’s facilities within Middle and Dennis townships.

The initial phase of work will occur between Woodbine-Oceanview Road (CR 550) and Main Street (CR 668). Construction is scheduled to begin on Jan. 19.

The work is expected to take several weeks to complete, so motorists are urged to proceed with caution along the detour route and within the work zone, according to a Cape May County news release.

Work will include the replacement of the existing timber electric poles with new steel poles founded on caissons. The construction operation will require the use of cranes and drilling rigs to perform the pole installations.

The extent of the upgrades impacting Corson’s Tavern Road will be from Woodbine- Oceanview Road (CR 550) to Kings Highway (CR 608).

To safely do the work, Corson’s Tavern Road will be closed to through traffic in both directions between Woodbine Oceanview Road and Main Street starting on Jan. 19.

During normal work hours Monday through Fridays, this portion of CR 628 will be closed to through traffic, and traffic will be detoured.

Southbound traffic approaching Woodbine-Oceanview Road will be directed onto Woodbine-Oceanview Road east to NJ Route 9. Traffic will then be directed south along NJ Route 9 to Main Street (CR 668).

Traffic will head west along Main Street back to Corson’s Tavern Road.  Similarly, northbound traffic will be directed east onto Main Street, north along NJ Route 9 and then west along Woodbine-Oceanview Road back to Corson’s Tavern Road.

This traffic pattern will be in place Monday through Friday during normal working hours.

At night and on the weekends, the southbound lane of Corson’s Tavern Road will remain closed and under a detour.

Northbound traffic will be restored. Local traffic will be always maintained, and residents will always have access to their homes, even under the full road closure.

Motorists may experience some delays traveling along the corridor during the day as flaggers will be controlling the flow of traffic through the immediate work zone.
